Short answer. The Overworld seed is not public. On 14 August 2023 the server started using a modified terrain generator specifically to hide it. The Nether and End still run on
1434823964849314312, which has been independently checked by seed-cracking. Everything generated in the Overworld before August 2023, which is nearly all of the map, came from-4172144997902289642.
The four Overworld seeds
Seed values and dates below are documented on the community wiki’s map page.
2b2t has used four seeds while keeping one continuous map. A seed change does not wipe anything: already-generated chunks stay exactly as they are, and only newly generated terrain follows the new seed. That is why the map has visible seams.
| Seed | Active |

The second one exists because of an accident. On 8 August 2011 the world file corrupted, and the seed changed when it was rebuilt. The owner’s entire public comment on the incident was that it was corrupted, and that players should enjoy their nuclear winter.
The Nether and End are a different story
That fourth seed was applied to all three dimensions in mid-2013. The Overworld was reverted almost immediately. Nobody reverted the Nether or the End, so they kept it.
1434823964849314312 is therefore the seed for Nether and End terrain generated from 2013 onwards, and unlike the Overworld it is not a claim you have to take on trust. In 2021 a public seed-cracking script recovered 146008555100680 from the positions of ten Nether fortresses, then checked the result against terrain. That value is exactly the low 48 bits of the number above, and the low 48 bits are what structure placement and 1.12-era terrain actually depend on, so the two agree.
That is a real confirmation rather than a repeated rumour, with one honest limit: a crack of this kind cannot see the top 16 bits, so it confirms the part of the seed the world is built from and not every digit of it.
Why the Overworld seed was hidden
Because with a seed you can find people.
Knowing the seed lets you regenerate the world offline. Once you can do that, you can take a screenshot or a video frame of somebody’s base, match its terrain against your own copy, and get coordinates. This was a known technique on 2b2t for years, and it meant that posting a picture of your build was effectively publishing its location.
The change came with the 1.19 update on 14 August 2023. In 2b2t’s own words, on its modifications page and in the update post, the server “now has a modified vanilla terrain generator to hide the seed and prevent players from generating their own copy of the world.” The owner said in his post at the time that he hoped it would make it possible to share screenshots and videos of bases again.
A precision worth keeping. The published wording is that the generator was modified to hide the seed. It has never been said that the numeric seed itself was replaced. So “2b2t changed its seed in 2023” overstates what is known. What is certain is that the seed is no longer usable or recoverable, because terrain no longer maps to it.
That update had a rough fortnight. It was rolled back on 26 August after complaints about chunk culling and an item reset. The hidden seed survived the rollback.
Can the current generator be cracked?
There is no publicly documented crack as of September 2026. That is not the same as saying it cannot be done, and nobody serious has claimed it is impossible. It is simply that nobody has published one.
