Short answer. 2b2t has rules now, and they are enforced well past what its terms describe. Profanity is filtered out of chat, signs and map art. Bots are banned in waves. Players report punishments for using a VPN, for criticising the admins, and for discussing punishments at all. Griefing, killing and hacking are still fine. Penalties run from a silent mute to a permanent ban.
What players are actually punished for
2b2t has never published a complete rule list. What exists instead is 2Builders12Rules, a community project that collects punishment reports from the players they happen to. This list is built from those reports, not from the terms, and it comes with its own warning: “You may still get punished even though you didn’t break these rules.”
- Profanity. Blocked in chat, on signs, and in map art. Enforcement is close to total.
- Bots. Banned in waves. Whole fleets of accounts disappear at once.
- Automated chat, spam, and advertising other shops.
- Hateful or political builds. Removed by hand by an admin, and the builder can be banned for it.
- Harassment, cyberbullying, threats or insults, in chat, in private messages, or on Discord and other platforms outside the game entirely.
- Doxxing, sharing personal information, or joking about it.
- Discussing punishments or rules, in-game or off it.
- Criticising the admins.
- Connecting through a VPN. VPN users are treated as possible alt accounts and punished as such.
- Alt accounts used to evade a punishment, or claiming to be a punished player.
- Usernames or skins that break a rule or look like an alt.
- Anything illegal, and helping anyone else break any of the above.
Rules 7, 8 and 9 are the ones nobody expects on a server that sold itself for fifteen years on having none. You can be punished for asking why you were punished.
The punishment ladder

Appeals go to support@2b2t.org. Players report that emails are usually ignored, and that no reason is given for the original punishment.
What the terms admit, and what they leave out
The written terms are narrower than the enforcement. They are worth reading side by side, because the gap is the point.
The terms say, word for word:
- “Do not create builds, structures, or any other content relating to harmful ideas, hateful symbols, or hateful speech.”
- “Do not engage in or participate in any personal or real-life harassment, threats or bullying whatsoever, either in-game or an external community.”
- “Do not flood the chat with repeated messages and spam (Example: Promoting 3rd party shops is not permitted).”
- “Do not automate any messages in the chat.”
- “Do not attempt to undermine the server’s efforts to provide every player an equal and fair playing environment, through means such as abusing any exploit, bug or flawed game mechanic to cause server disruption or lag.”
- Penalties: “You may have your chat privileges temporarily or permanently disabled” and “You may have your access to the server temporarily or permanently disabled, depending on the severity.”
Nothing there mentions profanity, VPNs, bot accounts, criticising staff, or discussing the rules. All five are enforced anyway. “Harmful ideas” is left undefined and decided by staff, which in practice is how political and extremist builds get removed. “Either in-game or an external community” is the line that lets an argument on Discord cost you your account.
Players must also follow the Minecraft Usage Guidelines, the Minecraft Community Standards and the Xbox Community Standards, which is where the profanity and hate-speech rules actually come from.
The timeline
- 11 December 2025. An experimental Bedrock entry point opens. It is later shut down for good.
- 19 December 2025. New terms, and a post, Transparency on Recent Changes, saying the update was made “to comply with an official notice from Mojang / Microsoft.” Permanent bans appear in the wording the same day. Mojang has since gone further with 6b6t, which refused to add rules: a Java client blocklist in July 2026, then a takedown of its AnarchyMod in September. What happened.
- 12 January 2026. A chat filter goes live, unannounced. It shadow blocks: you still see your own message, nobody else does. How the filter works.
- February 2026. Profanity blocked on signs and in map art by an automated system. Hateful builds removed by hand. Players encouraged to report each other by email.
What is still allowed
Griefing, killing, trapping, stealing, lying, and hacked clients. The gameplay is untouched. What changed is everything around it: what you may say, what you may build, who you may argue with, how you may connect, and whether you may complain about any of it.
How players reacted
- A post on r/2b2t titled “2b2t is no longer anarchy”, complaining that you “cant even write curse words on signs anymore”, was removed by the moderators. The screenshot.
- The terms were posted as a meme, “New rules LMFAO”, with “permanently disabled” circled.
- “Its over. 2b2t has fallen.”: “You cant even talk about the issues on the main 2b2t sub without being immediately censored.”
- Players reported staff deleting two large sky-art builds that broke neither the terms nor Mojang’s rules, then stripping priority queue from more than twenty players who happened to be nearby, without refunds. The PSA, which recommended chargebacks.
These are player reports. 2b2t has not commented on any of them, which is consistent with a rule against discussing punishments.
What this means if you are choosing a server
2b2t is still worth seeing once, for fifteen years of history that exists nowhere else. It is no longer the place to play without rules. If the point of anarchy for you is that nobody can mute you, delete your build, or ban you for arguing, the alternatives page compares the servers that still work that way.
